Our Civic Club Story
In March of 1979, a group of 12 women living in Wimberley recognized the increased needs of a rapidly-growing community. They gathered and discussed forming an active service organization, The Community Civic Club. It was their purpose to "nurture a strong community spirit, to be ever aware of our community's needs and services, and to welcome newcomers."
These 12 women laid a solid foundation to the current organization of the Community Civic Club; they also began the tradition of service and financial support to the community through their first fund raiser in 1981. The Civic Club has grown to 200 comprised of long time members and new led by an elected board. Every year members come together to welcome new members, form and continue friendships as we raise funds for the community through the Hill Country Home Tour, The Style Show and Market, Breakfast with Santa, Tablescapes and Spring Events. Our dedicated members offer their time, talents, and resources as we progress through the year. In the spring we all gather to celebrate the fruits of our labors by sharing our proceeds with local non-profit organizations and college-bound seniors.
The Year in Review 2024-2025
In our 46th year, we followed through with our Civic Club goals in a spectacular fashion! We held our monthly meetings at the Wimberley Methodists Church and welcomed presenters with the theme to connect to various aspects of our community. This included guest speakers from the Library, the Native Plant Society, the View newspaper, and other topics of interest. We continued our service project for Hays Caldwell Women’s Center, raising $2,568. The membership totaled 165 at the end of the year.
The Style Show kicked off the years’ activities in October followed by Breakfast with Santa before the Holidays. There were 38 Spring Events scheduled and raised over $16,000. Special Events included Comedy and Magic Show, Seventies Concert, and the ever popular Trivia Night.
It was a banner year for the annual Home Tour to which 574 tickets were sold, raising over $17,000. The newly instituted Partnership Program proved to be a great success with support of over $35,000 from the Community. An online Auction also added almost $11,000 to the treasury.
Because of the successful fundraising throughout the year, we were able to award 14 scholarships totaling $40,000 and awarded Grants to 31 local nonprofit organizations totaling $48,000. We thank all those who contributed to our Civic Club efforts to give back to the community in this way.
Under the leadership of President Becky Williams, we thank all the hard-working Civic Club members who help us achieve our goal to “Connect, Have Fun, and Do Good.”
